Research Interests
Dr. Canu’s research program focuses primarily on Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), with a specific emphasis on examining the adjustment of adults who have been diagnosed with this psychological disorder.  Prior studies have investigated the quality and timing of romantic relationships of undergraduate men with the Inattentive and Combined types of ADHD, as well as the social stigma attached to ADHD by peers.  Ongoing research in Dr. Canu’s lab examines the personality and personal preferences of the romantic partners of those with ADHD, as well as dyadic variables such as problem solving and conflict resolution.  Other lines of inquiry include investigating the validity of a proposed set of adult ADHD symptoms, health and physical activity outcomes associated with adult-persistent ADHD, the impact of this psychological disorder on work safety, and the implementation of behavioral training and coaching for parents of children with ADHD in community-based settings.
