Research Interests
My research program is characterized by the utilization of established basic social psychological models in developing, implementing, and evaluating theoretically grounded interventions designed to promote health and/or prevent illness. In pursuing this goal, I have taken a "full cycle" approach, using complementary strategies of laboratory and field research.

In the domain of health psychology, I have most recently been focused on organ donation decision making and screening behaviors (e.g., breast and testicular self-examination). I have also been involved in research related to fat talk (the largely white female-specific norm to degrade one's body when interacting with other women) and religious orientation (e.g., as it relates to social cognition and to health behaviors).

Finally, I have interests in empirical investigation of teaching and learning processes (i.e., SoTL, the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning). In this work, I have focused on the application of basic social and cognitive psychological phenomena within the context of learning.

I am involved with the Clinical Health and General Experimental Masters programs at ASU and am active in undergraduate education. I invite undergraduates seeking research experience and/or completing senior theses, and prospective graduate students to contact me for additional information about current projects and openings in my lab.
